Fun with Photoshop Filters

Sunflower at Inniswood

Sunflower at Inniswood

This photo was taken last summer at Inniswood Metro Gardens, Ohio.  I decided to play around with Photoshop’s radial blur filter, layer masks, and Nik Software’s Color Efex 4 and Viveza 2.   I usually don’t use the gimmick tools photoshop has to offer, but when applied in the right manner the results can be quite pleasing.  Thanks as always for viewing!    - Vince

Decorating with Earth Tones

Macro Earth Tones

Macro Earth Tones

I received tremendous input from clients visiting my booth at local art fairs this past year.  One of the lessons I learned was that people generally prefer warm earth tones to complement their home or office decor.  You might have the best image on earth but if it doesn’t match one’s decor it’s usually going to result in a no sale!  I love bright and bold color combinations but in reality such colors may not work in many decorating situations.   Fortunately, earth tones abound in the landscape.  These tones may not pop out at you right away but with time you’ll learn to see many intimate shades in the landscape.   Thanks f0r viewing – Vince

New River Gorge Area – West Virginia

I just returned from a couple days exploring the New River Gorge Area of West Virginia.  This is one of my signature close-up texture images from Hawk’s Nest State Park, WV. It seems I’m always looking for unusual textures and patterns of light.   Looking forward to a return trip soon!  Thanks for viewing! – Vince

Silver Maple Reflections

This little leaf was very ordinary, just sitting in a puddle on a trail.  I almost walked by but decided to stay to study the light, composition, and reflecting colors.  I ended up staying for about 30 minutes.  I just couldn’t get enough of the tree canopy and blue sky reflecting down into this ordinary world.  Only after  several mosquito bites and many weird looks from trail runners did I decide to call it a morning.   Take your time, walk slow, and keep your eyes and mind open to what you might see.   Happy shooting! – Vince

Filling the Frame

Darby Creek Prairie

Taking the time to find the right subject and setting up your shot with a steady tripod is a given in macro and close-up photography. Filling the frame can improve almost any image. The composition, lighting, color, and details all combine to make a shot with more impact!  Keep it simple and don’t be afraid to get in close!   Happy shooting!!!
