Hocking Hills Poster

Hocking Hills Poster

I just finished a concept poster featuring the Hocking Hills region of Ohio.  I’ll probably make this available along with other posters on the site.  Hocking Hills State Park is definitely worth a trip out of city!   Thanks for viewing! – Vince

Decorating with Earth Tones

Macro Earth Tones

Macro Earth Tones

I received tremendous input from clients visiting my booth at local art fairs this past year.  One of the lessons I learned was that people generally prefer warm earth tones to complement their home or office decor.  You might have the best image on earth but if it doesn’t match one’s decor it’s usually going to result in a no sale!  I love bright and bold color combinations but in reality such colors may not work in many decorating situations.   Fortunately, earth tones abound in the landscape.  These tones may not pop out at you right away but with time you’ll learn to see many intimate shades in the landscape.   Thanks f0r viewing – Vince

Prairie Details

My search for early morning light was interrupted by a pop up thunderstorm and needless to say I decided to play it safe and avoid being a target with my aluminum alloy tripod!   Yes carbon fiber is on the list but it’s just not in the budget right now!   – Besides, I don’t even notice the weight anymore!   Instead of packing it in and heading home I decided to wait out the weather and work with less than ideal conditions.   The air was starting to move my macro subjects around the prairie but the lingering clouds provided the cover I needed for a little diffused light.   I decided to focus on the overlooked details as I’m becoming a little bored with summer prairie blooms and anxiously awaiting the colors of autumn.   I happened upon this patch of prairie drop seed?  and just worked the backgrounds and different angles of light not knowing what I’d come home with from this morning.  I opened up my aperture in order to isolate the seed heads and give a fast shutter speed to overcome the slight breeze.   This small series was taken all within a 10 square foot area at Battelle Darby Creek Metro Park, Galloway OH.   Thanks for viewing! – Vince

Silver Maple Reflections

Darby Creek Ohio

Darby Creek Ohio

This little leaf was very ordinary, just sitting in a puddle on a trail.  I almost walked by but decided to stay to study the light, composition, and reflecting colors.  I ended up staying for about 30 minutes.  I just couldn’t get enough of the tree canopy and blue sky reflecting down into this ordinary world.  Only after  several mosquito bites and many weird looks from trail runners did I decide to call it a morning.   Take your time, walk slow, and keep your eyes and mind open to what you might see.   Happy shooting! – Vince

Darby Creek Greenway Trail

It’s time to embrace the hot and humid summer here in Ohio by heading out to the prairies.  Prairie plants are some of my favorite items to shoot in the summer landscape.  While most of the woodlands are filled with boring shades of green I can always find unique subjects at the prairies here in Central Ohio.  I prefer to shoot early in the morning when the temps are low, winds are still, and the light is soft.  This photo was taken at Battelle Darby Creek Metro Park, Ohio.   View more of my recent prairie photos @ http://vincentnobel.zenfolio.com/
