Darby Creek Greenway Trail

It’s time to embrace the hot and humid summer here in Ohio by heading out to the prairies.  Prairie plants are some of my favorite items to shoot in the summer landscape.  While most of the woodlands are filled with boring shades of green I can always find unique subjects at the prairies here in Central Ohio.  I prefer to shoot early in the morning when the temps are low, winds are still, and the light is soft.  This photo was taken at Battelle Darby Creek Metro Park, Ohio.   View more of my recent prairie photos @ http://vincentnobel.zenfolio.com/

I was back out at Inniswood this morning prior to a portrait session and was fortunate to finally see a few summer flowers in bloom.  This Gray-headed Coneflower caught my attention for an up close portrait.   Thanks for viewing!   – Vince

Summer Prairie Plants

Purple Coneflower

Purple Coneflower

Native type prairie plants are some of my favorite flowers to photograph in the hot summer months.   I especially like Echinacea in all their varieties.   Most will recognize the popular Echinacea purpurea, Purple Coneflower.   Other varieties range in color from white, orange, and even green.    Echinacea can be found at home in the Ohio prairies, throughout the midwest, and are adaptable to the harsh urban landscape.   I’m looking forward to hitting the prairies soon!   Thanks for viewing! – Vince

Blackwater Falls State Park Abstract

Elakala Falls Abstract

Elakala Falls Abstract

Blackwater Falls State Park in Davis, WV is a wonderful area to visit and photograph with it’s wide range of flora, waterfalls, and streams.  I just love the look of the “black water” which is the result of leached tannic acids from the decomposed fallen hemlock and red spruce.   Unfortunately, the massive amounts of recent rain produced a torrent of water over many of the falls resulting in less than desirable conditions for waterfall photography.  However, since I focus on close-up and macro, I jumped at the opportunity to improvise and create an image out of less than ideal conditions using my macro lens of course!    This image is from the rushing waters of Elakala Falls.  Hopefully, I’ll make it back this fall for some calmer waters!  Thanks for viewing ~ Vince

Dolly Sods Wilderness in Macro

Macro Fern at Dolly Sods WV

This past week I had a chance to visit the Canaan Valley of West Virginia to photograph close-up and macro images.   Rain and hail limited my shooting time along with an aching back!   I did manage to make it over to the Dolly Sods Wilderness Area for a few hours.   The ridge crest of Dolly Sods forms part of the Eastern Continental Divide and ranges in altitude from about 2,700 feet to 4,000 feet.   This plateau offers amazing views of the surrounding area, but I kept my lens focused close and to the ground for the finer details.   I hope to make it back this fall with better weather.   Here’s a fern I found up on the plateau.  Thanks for viewing!   – Vince
