Scioto Trail - Central Ohio Greenways

People and landscapes are sometimes forgotten.   Easy to ignore when you’re not directly affected.  Apathetic is a word that comes to mind.  The Hilltop Connector, part of the Scioto Trail connects the west side to the Columbus Ohio trail system - the Central Ohio Greenway. A trail I travel by bike several times a week. It’s hard not to notice the detritus just beyond the trail. Hidden with foliage during most of the year the magnitude of people’s plight reveals itself with the fallen leaves. Today I left the bike at home and ventured on foot, a slower more observable pace.  Entering this area, about the size of an American football field I wasn’t sure how to feel or what to expect.  Anger didn’t enter my thoughts.  Sadness, concern, and seeing this as a symptom of a society at large seemed to take over.  Looking around it was hard to take it all in.  I was all alone but I could see individuals, families, and their lives come into focus.

This was my first visit here. I plan l return along with other areas nearby.  I’m not sure what the solution is if any.  I do believe there needs to be more empathy, understanding, and less greed in the world today.  The divide is present more than ever.
